Material & Grade Overview
CVD Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) is the workhorse LWIR material for 8–14μm thermal imaging. Standard FLIR grade ZnS delivers excellent long-wave infrared transmission. HIP hot isostatic pressing converts it to multispectral ZnS, extending usable range into visible and near-infrared for common-aperture sensors. Material substrate does not equal final performance grade. Please specify grade, wavelength band and coating requirements to avoid improper selection.

Typical Application
- 8–14μm LWIR thermal imaging cameras and surveillance systems
- UAV, gimbal, airborne EO/IR common-aperture multi-sensor payloads
- Vehicle thermal sight, marine and rugged outdoor sensor protection
- Multispectral optical systems combining visible, NIR and LWIR channels
Coating Selection Guide
LWIR AR coating reduces surface reflection and maximizes long-wave infrared transmission. DLC coating improves scratch resistance and environmental durability for field deployment. Combined AR+DLC coating is recommended for harsh airborne, marine and outdoor environments. Learn more about infrared optical coating technology.

FAQ Snippets
What is the difference between FLIR grade ZnS and multispectral HIP ZnS?
Standard FLIR grade ZnS is optimized only for 8–14μm LWIR. HIP hot isostatic pressing removes scattering centers, enabling visible+NIR+LWIR multispectral transmission for common-aperture sensors.
Can CVD ZnS dome be used underwater or subsea?
ZnS is softer and less water-resistant than sapphire. Sapphire is preferred for deep subsea; ZnS suits dry-air or low-humidity airborne thermal payloads.
Is there fixed MOQ for CVD ZnS windows and domes?
No strict fixed MOQ. We support prototype, small‑batch and large‑volume manufacturing for custom ZnS optics.
