Material & Grade Overview
Infrared domes are the front protective optical window for thermal and multi-sensor systems. CVD ZnS is the mainstream LWIR solution; HIP multispectral ZnS supports common-aperture visible+NIR+LWIR. Sapphire delivers extreme hardness, abrasion and water resistance for marine and subsea use. Fused silica serves UV-NIR low-temperature sensor applications. Material substrate does not equal final performance grade. Specify wavelength, environment and coating for accurate quotation.

Typical Application
- UAV gimbal thermal imaging payloads & common-aperture multi-sensor systems
- Airborne, vehicle mounted, ground surveillance EO/IR turrets
- Marine, underwater ROV and subsea optical sensor protection
- Rugged defense, industrial monitoring and outdoor thermal camera housings
Coating Selection Guide
LWIR AR coating maximizes infrared transmission for thermal cameras. Multispectral AR coating is required for visible + LWIR co-bore sight systems. DLC coating provides scratch, sand and moisture resistance for harsh field environments. AR+DLC combined coating is the premium choice for high-reliability airborne and marine domes. FAQ Snippets
Which dome material should I choose between ZnS and sapphire?
ZnS is cost-effective for LWIR / multispectral airborne gimbals. Sapphire is harder, water-resistant and the top pick for subsea, high-abrasion and long-lifetime marine systems.
What is the difference between AR coating and DLC coating on IR dome?
AR coating improves optical transmittance; DLC improves mechanical durability and chemical resistance. AR+DLC stacks deliver both optical performance and ruggedness.
Can you custom make infrared domes from our drawing?
Yes. We manufacture fully custom infrared domes according to your drawing, including radius, wall thickness, flange, O-ring groove and coating requirements. No fixed MOQ for prototype orders.
